While doing a Google search for USB to HDMI cables the other night, I noticed that people from my Google+ circles were showing up in my search results. That got me to thinking about how important it is to connect to as many people as possible.
Let that sink in for a minute, because from the Google Search perspective, it truly is a numbers game. Google is automatically injecting your opinion into other people’s search results when they are the most likely to be looking for something. Normally you would have to pay for that kind of exposure. To businesses, that exposure is golden.
As a business, if you are well connected and you share your content and the content of others regularly, then the likelihood that your “face” will pop up a lot is pretty good. The more you share on a variety of topics, the more surface area you gain. The more connections you make, the more your surface area increases. You don’t even have to “know” the people you are connected to. Google will put you in front of them anyway.
Over time, things might change as Google refines how they show social results to people. But for right now those who connect and share the most are being rewarded.
Watch the video and judge for yourself. What do you think?
