Good audio, fast loading. These are two simple rules for online video. If the audio is bad, people won’t watch the video. If the video takes too long to load, people won’t watch the video. Not to mention that it makes for an excellent user experience.

So far, Wistia is the only online video service I’ve seen that serves up video wicked fast. Regardless of size, their video’s start almost before you hit the play button. The only problem I’ve had with them in the past is that they have priced themselves outside of the range for some of our clients. That makes it hard to recommend them every time. That is, until now.

Today Wistia announced they are offering a Free Plan. I call it a Freemium plan personally. It includes up to 3 videos, 15 GBs of bandwidth (about 2,300 views of a 1 minute video) per month, and enough storage to house those videos. It also comes with Wistia player branding, like on the video above.

I think that’s a great deal considering the videos delivery is wicked fast (yes, I like that word), not to mention they offer analytics to show you how long people watch your video and the exact place where people exit the video. This plan should give everyone access to a good services where they can prove it’s value and then upgrade to other premium services later, as needed.
