This weekend I came across a handy iPhone app called vLingo that uses Speech-To-Text technology to convert spoken words into text. Speech-To-Text isn’t all that new, but the vLingo application is very accurate and you can have it post updates to your social networks on Twitter and Facebook. Now that’s pretty handy in my book. I can’t wait till I can dictate full blog posts to my phone and have it convert everything to text. Talk about an explosion in text searchable content.
Get ready, it’s coming.

Thanks to your helpful blog post I downloaded the Vlingo app and now tweet handsfree
It’s spot on most of the time but i am yet to figure out punctuation.
This is one of the most useful apps I have downloaded so far.
Wow that is neat.
I guess the next stage will be suing your mobile phone for blogging. And going forward one can actually speak in any language and not just English. One could blog in Chinese, Japanese, French, etc.
In addition, one can actually add emotions. Like anger if the voice is too loud or when the guy is shouting. I guess if the speech to text software could recognize that it would be simply awesome.
@CJ, You are absolutely right. I don’t think we are too far off from this day. Nuance Communications has already released the Dragon Dictation software for the iPhone. If a mobile device can run speech-to-text software with a decent degree of accuracy, then I don’t think it will be much longer. Voice is a more natural interface in my opinion anyway.
